REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) said people must understand Saudi Arabia law. His comments came related to execution of an Indonesian migrant worker Zaini Misrin, who was sentenced to death for allegedly murdering his employer and was executed on last Sunday, March 18.

JK asserted the execution did not occured without prior notice. In fact, Indonesian Government has made dozens of meetings with Saudi authorities related to Misrin's legal process in the last 14 years.

"Government has gave its maximum effort in defending Misrin, but we must also understand the law in other country, same as we expect people to understand Indonesia law," said JK on Tuesday (March 20).

JK said all the migrant workers in foreign countries to not violate the law in the country. He asserted, Indonesia would also apply and punish people who violate law in the country.

"Wherever you are, do not violate the law in the country. We also understand that people make mistakes, then local laws will apply, and in Indonesia we punish people too," JK added.

Earlier, many protests came to Indonesian government over Zaini execution. One of the parties was Migrant Care that urged government to take stern measures against Saudi Arabia.

Migran Care Executive Director Wahyu Susilo said Indonesian government should issue a protest note over execution of Zaini. More over, it was due to Saudi Arabia did not notify Indonesia about the execution, either through the consulate general in Jeddah or the foreign ministry.

"Saudi Arabia has violated the principles of international law by failing to notify Indonesia about the execution," Susilo said.

Zaini, an Indonesian migrant worker from Bangkalan, Madura, East Java arrived in Saudi in 1992 and had been working as a private driver. After returning to Indonesia, he entered Saudi Arabia again in 1996 to work with the same employer he had worked before.

However, in 2004 Saudi Police arrested Zaini after allegedly murdering his employer, Abdullah bin Umar. In November 2008, he was sentenced to death by the Saudi court.
