REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PUTTUSIBAU -- A military task force of the Kapuas Hulu cross-border post has seized hundreds of liquor cans, which allegedly originated from Malaysia, during a raid in Puring Kencana Subdistrict, West Kalimantan.

"Hundreds of liquor cans of some brands, namely Benson, Daster, and King Way, along with some primary goods, had been transported to the Indonesian territory by the driver with initial GD (47)," the commander of the 123/Rajawali task force, Colonel Lieutenant Infantry Akbar Nofrizal Yusananto, said in a written statement received by Antara on Wednesday.

The driver admitted that he had taken some shortcuts after crossing the border post, in order to avoid the patrol officer. However, a task force officer had reported that a car had entered Indonesian territory from Batu Lintang Village, Malaysia.

Following the tip-off, the officers stopped the car and checked the driver's license. During the raid, the driver admitted that he was carrying some primary goods to Indonesia.

The officers further searched the suspect's truck and found 200 packs of Malaysia's Benson liquors, four packs of Daster, and 168 cans of King Way. These liquors were neatly packed and covered with a large sheet.

After the officers found the illegal goods, the suspect admitted that he was only assigned to transport the liquor to a store at Puring Kencana.

"We will double the security check at the border and some shortcuts nearby. After this incident, we will contact our counterpart in Customs Office, Immigration Office, as well as the police," the commander stressed.

He emphasized that the task force will intensify the supervision at some areas that reportedly have served as hubs for illegal goods distribution.

Following the raid, the military handed over the liquor to the Puring Kencana Police for further investigation.
