REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Deputy Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of Indonesia's House of Representatives, Rofi' Munawar, has condemned Israeli violence against demonstrators who were commemorating the Land Day. The Palestinian people hold a rally on the Land Day to commemorate the time when Israel annexed the Palestinian land in 1976.

"We condemn Israel's violent acts against thousands of Palestinian demonstrators in Gaza. What Israel has done was outrageous and inhumane," Rofi Munawar said in a statement received by Antara here on Sunday.

The Palestinian Health Ministry stated that at least 15 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,500 others are wounded in a clash with Israeli forces on the Gaza border on Friday (March 30).

The violent acts will certainly trigger a wave of bigger and more massive protests.

"Violence has always been in the Palestinian land since 1948 and continues to happen every time until now. Palestinians who are fighting for their land and rights are always confronted with repressive acts by the Israeli army," Rofi said.

The legislator explained that the death toll of Friday's rally was the largest since the last Israeli violent acts in Gaza in summer 2014. Since then the Gaza people have to live under difficult economic conditions.

"The demonstration of Gazans is peaceful, although the confrontation that involves Palestinian youths near the border with Israel army take place several times. But for many times Israel responds such demonstration with shootings and killings," Rofi said.

The commemoration of the Land Day is expected to be held for six weeks till May 15 on the day of the Nakba (the day of the catastrophe).

That date marks the migration of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians due to the annexation of their land by Israel in 1976.

Palestinians have been long fighting for their rights and land through diplomatic and intifada (struggle) movement, but Israel repeatedly violates the UN resolutions and agreement, and keeps attacking the Palestinians.
