REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) handed over a total of 3,063 land certificates to people in West Java Provincial sub-district of Cibadak on Saturday. He also reiterated the importance of having land certificate.
"The certificate is a legal proof of your land. If you have this, then you have evidence. Other people cannot disturb you, because of your legal hold, which is clear," the president stated, after symbolically delivering a number of land certificates to representatives of the local residents.
The recipients of the land certificates are 300 people from Sukabumi District, 162 people from the Sukabumi municipality, one thousand people from Cianjur District, 1,001 people from West Bandung District, and 600 people from Purwakarta District.
Jokowi further stated that several years ago, only 500 thousand land certificates were issued throughout Indonesia in a year.
"But last year, 590 thousand land certificates were issued only for West Java. This year, 1.2 million certificates will be given to West Java residents," he remarked.

The president also asked recipients of the certificates to maintain the certificates carefully. "Please pack the certificates in plastic and store it in the cupboard. The certificates can be photocopied at first and kept at different place, so that it would become easy if the certificates are lost," the president reminded.
Earlier, Jokowi remarked that the government had increased the target for distribution of land certificates every year to five million in 2017, seven million in 2018, and nine million in 2019.
