REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Chairman Fadli Zon asserted that the party has decided to name Prabowo Subianto as presidential candidate in 2019 election. He said Gerindra has not been open to other option.

" I wonder why did (anyone) try to prevent Prabowo (from running in the presidential election). There is an effort to raise opinion so that Prabowo will become a king maker, a vice president and so on," he said in Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.

His statement came to respond rumor saying Prabowo would not run in the presidential election. Fadli considered the rumor as an unhealthy agenda setting for democracy.

"The mandate was clearly given by Gerindra Party to Prabowo through internal process," he reiterated.

Fadli also denied the existance of three options from discussion with United Development Party Chairman (PPP) Romahurmuziy and Chairman of Gerindra Party's Victory Team Sandiaga Uno related to presidential election. However, he acknowleged the meeting.

"It was an ordinary lobby, in the name of trying. But, there is no way Pak (Mr) Prabowo will become vice presidential candidate," he said.

Sandiaga has met with Romahurmuziy on last Thursday (April 19). In the meeting, he said they discussed 2019 presidential election. The discussion about an option to pair Joko Widodo with Prabowo also emerged.

Gerindra Party confirmed that Prabowo Subianto to run in the presidential election for the third time in 2019. The party has officially name him as its presidential candidate during a national coordination meeting (Rakornas) in his residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Wednesday (April 11).
