REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Crime Division of the Indonesian Police has detained three foreigners who were sought for trafficking five Bangladeshi Nationals to Australia, the general crime director, Brig. Pol. Herry Rudolf Nahak, said here on Monday. He stated that the suspects were identified as Mohammad Nur Hossain, Mohammad Yamin Mohammad Arif, or Amin, and Heri Sastra Firdaus.

Nahak revealed that Amin was a citizen of Myanmar, who has stayed  in Indonesia since 2012, while Hossain was a Bangladeshi national.The three suspects were arrested last month in different regions.

For their operation, Hossain had served as a recruiter, while Amin was tasked to provide accommodation for the illegal migrants in Indonesia. The third suspect, Firdaus, was assigned to provide transportation for a trip en route from Jakarta to Bau-Bau, Southeast Sulawesi.

The police revealed the case when six foreign nationals, who claimed to be Rohingya immigrants, were detained in Merauke, Papua.

The six immigrants are identified as Shofiqul Islam (39), Amir Hossain (33), Ahsanul Hoque (24), Abadur Rahman (34), Hossain Islam (24), and Mohammad Nur Hossain (24).

After being questioned, the six people were found to be Bangladeshi nationals. "They claimed to be Rohingya immigrants in order to receive sympathy from the officers and the people," Nahak revealed, while adding that these six suspects were in Papua to continue their journey to Australia.

The fee to transport a Bangladeshi national to Malaysia is RM15 thousand, or Rp53 million.

These Bangladeshi nationals were transported from Port Klang, Malaysia, to Dumai, Pekanbaru, Riau Province.

In Dumai, the agent Hossain contacted Amin to provide transportation to Jakarta, and upon arrival in the city, Firdaus picked these Bangladeshi citizens from the Tanjung Priok Port.

Nahak remarked that these foreign nationals continued their journey to Southeast Sulawesi and Jayapura by ship.

"(Because they claimed to be Rohingyas), some of the people (in Jayapura) helped purchase flight tickets to Merauke for the suspects, and they got two recommendation letters for the check-in process," he emphasized.

Nahak revealed that the three suspects will be charged under the Article 120 of the Law No.6 Year 2011 on Immigration Affairs.
