REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSADUA -- A tourist from Australia, identified as Joy Haiden, was found dead in the Suluban beach in Pecatu village, Bali. It was believed that Haiden was dragged by the high tide of the sea waves when he was surfing in the beach.
"Based on the information we gathered, the victim was dragged by the Suluban beach waves when he was surfing," said Chief of South Kuta Police Police Commissioner Nengah Patrem in South Kuta, Bali on Tuesday.
He further said that the Badung baywatch received information from the residents around the area that there were a tourist who drowned in the Suluban beach of Pecatu village in South Kuta on April 23 around 6:30 p.m. local time.
The victim was known to have departed from Nyoman Home Stay in North Kuta at 6 a.m. local time and was headed to Suluban beach to surf on his own.
"He surfed alone, although the wave was quite high. He turned out to be dragged into the middle of the ocean," he said.
A number of eyewitnesses who saw the incident immediately reported it to the authorities, however, the victim could not be saved and was found dead.
The remains was then taken to the Sanglah Hospital for further examinations.
