President urges transparency on Hajj fund management

The total Hajj fund is recorded at Rp103 trillion.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), at a closed-door meeting, urged related parties to maintain transparency on Hajj fund management. He has asked the Hajj Fund Management Agency to deliver the reports.

"It is all about the trust from Indonesian people," Jokowi said, in his opening speech during the meeting held at the Bogor Presidential Palace, on Thursday.

The president sought information on the total fund collected for Hajj management. "I asked the management to maintain the fund in a transparent and accountable system and, more importantly, follow sharia regulations," Widodo noted.

Several ministers who attended the meeting include Religion Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, and Legal and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly.

The Head of Hajj Fund Management Agency, Anggito Abimanyu; the Director of Indonesian Central Bank, Agus Martowardojo; and the Chairman Commissioner Council of Financial Service Authority, Wimboh Santoso, also attended the meeting.

According to the Hajj Fund Management Agency on March 2018, the total Hajj fund is recorded at Rp103 trillion. The government has directed the Hajj fund to be invested in Saudi Arabia and in Indonesia.
