REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) deputy chairman, Rita Pranawati said the organizers of For You Indonesia event, namely Forum untuk Indonesia, will be summoned, related to the death of two children. Both of the victims allegedly were trampled by the mass when queuing to get free sembako (basic needs) parcels.

"We scheduled summon for organizers of the event on next Friday (May 4)," said Rita on Wednesday (May 2).

Rita said social activities should not victimize the children. Distribution of free sembako, for example, could be done by going to beneficiaries. Therefore, the children would not be confronted to dangerous circumstances, especially in the crowded area.

Rita asserted parents needed to understand that the children are very vulnerable if invited to the crowd, including in political activities. The children are at risk of being exposed to riots, intimidation, conflict, hateful materials and other negative things in the crowd.

Earlier, two children identified as MJ (12 yo) and R (10 yo) were reported lost their lives because of jostling. The two dead victims were Pademangan, West Jakarta citizens.

However, chairman of committee For You Indonesia, Dave Santosa denied cause of death of two children was because of jostling when queuing sembako. Evaluation result of the event concluded that there was no report of stampedes or commotion during the event.
