REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- The number of Indian tourists visiting the resort island of Bali rose 60.45 percent in the first quarter this year to 84,197, from 52,477 in the same quarter last year. The increase made India the third-biggest source of tourist arrivals in Bali after China and Australia, Chief of the Central Statistics Agency Office in Bali Province Adi Nugroho stated here on Thursday.

Indian tourists constituted 6.46 percent of the overall tourist arrivals in Bali, reaching 1.303 million in the January-March 2018 quarter, he noted.

India is one of the seven countries that witnessed an increase in the number of their citizens holidaying in Bali apart from Japan, the Great Britain, the United States, Malaysia, Russia, and Germany.

In comparison with the same quarter last year, the number of tourists from Japan rose 4.24 percent; the Great Britain, 16.34 percent; the United States, 10.14 percent; Malaysia, 18.33 percent; Russia, 8.51 percent; and Germany, 8.05 percent, in the first quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, the number of tourist arrivals from China, Australia, and Singapore fell 24.12 percent, 5.74 percent, and 4.3 percent respectively.

On a separate occasion, Chief of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office Anak Agung Yuniarta Putra expressed optimism that the number of Indian tourists visiting Bali would increase after Garuda Indonesia began operating flights on the Denpasar-Mumbai route.
