REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Saleh Muhammad Al-Shun has lauded "115 rally" in Jakarta on Friday. At least hundreds of thousands of people staged a peace rally at the National Monument in Jakarta on Friday to demonstrate their solidarity towards Palestine and voice their protest against the plan to transfer the Israeli capital from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The ambassador emphasized that Jerusalem is the future capital of Palestine.

"We are pleased that the Indonesian people consistently continue to support the Palestinians in their fight for independence," he remarked here on Friday.

U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel does not change the Palestinians' right to the status of the holy land. "Jerusalem cannot be separated from the Palestinian people," he emphasized.

On December 6, 2017, President Trump had announced the transfer of the US Embassy to Jerusalem and recognized it as the capital of Israel.

The inauguration of the relocated US Embassy will take place on May 14, 2018.

The plan of the US government is drawing criticism from several countries, including Indonesia. The United Nations General Assembly Resolution has condemned President Trump's decision.
