REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,  JAKARTA -- United Development Party (PPP) politician Arwani Thomafi commented on a viral video showing hundreds members of Sion Kids Center of Papua community were raising Israeli flag in a convoy recently. He asserted that it was an act against the spirit of the constitution.

"Israeli flag-raising is clearly contrary to the spirit of the constitution, as stated in the first paragraph of preamble 1945 Constitution, which expressly rejects any form of colonialism on the earth," Arwani said on Friday (May 18).

Israel has clearly colonised Palestine. Therefore, authorities must ensure that every act of society in Indonesia is not against the constitution, said Arwani.

Arwani said Indonesia's foreign policy stance which places Palestine as the heart of Indonesia's foreign policy must be interpreted with the real efforts of the entire Indonesian nation. It must be done to fully support Palestinian independence.

"We refuse any action that further alienates Palestinian independence," he said.

Therefore, he urged government to be more aggressive in responding the situation in Palestine by using various instruments. It is needed to prevent and decrease escalation in Palestine and ensure immediate independence of Palestine.

Indonesia's participation in international forums of cooperation with other countries must be used to support Palestinian independence, Arwani added.

Meanwhile, Arwani also criticized United States (US) policy which moved embassy office from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He said the policy was an act that injured the peace efforts that already pioneered by many parties so far.
