REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAJALENGKA -- West Java International Airport (BIJB) in Kertajati, Majalengka inaugurated following a historical landing of Presidential aircraft Indonesia-1 on Thursday (May 24). President Joko Widodo and his entourage was welcomed by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan, Majalengka Regent Sutrisno, and a number of officials.

"This is a succesfull trial," said President Jokowi on Thursday (24).

Jokowi expected West Java International Airport to be able to provide services for all West Java citizens and people who wish to visit the province. He also hoped the airport can provide economic impact for people in Majalengka and West Java.

In the future, Jokowi expected West Java International Airport can be integrated with Patimban Port in Subang Regency, which is only 40 kilometres away. With the integration, it would facilitate services to investors and so economic growth in West Java could be better and improved.

President also appreciated business mode in development of Kertajati Airport. Its integrates cooperation between central government, provincial government, and private.

We will develop this business model also in other provinces, Jokowi added.

Meanwhile, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the length of West Java International Airport will be extended from 2,500 meters to 3,000 meters in November. Thus, this airport would be able to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft.

West Java International Airport will be the second largest airport after Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, said Budi.
