REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- The rapist of a French tourist in Labuan Bajo arrested by Manggarai Barat Police Resort, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday. The perpetrator was identified as CAP.

"We have arrested the rapist today," Chief of Manggarai Barat Police Resort Julisa Kusumowardono said when contacted by reporters in Kupang on Friday.

CAP was arrested by Criminal Investigation Unit of Loura Police Sector in Wae Kelo Port, Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba. He allegedly tried to escape using a ferry boat from Wae Kelo Port to Sape, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Earlier, the police have put him in the wanted list (DPO).

A foreign female tourist identified as as MB (22) was allegedly raped in Labuan Bajo on Tuesday (June 12) by a man identified as CAP -- earlier identified as A, who presented himself as a tour guide. The incident took place when MB rode along A on a motorcycle to the Cunca Wulang waterfall.

Head of East Nusa Tenggara Tourism Office, Marius Ardu Jelamu, strongly condemned such immoral acts for adversely affecting the tourism sector, especially in Labuan Bajo which is one of 10 national flagship destinations. In addition, Marius asked the local government of West Manggarai to ensure that the victims get maximum service to restore her condition.
