REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Riau Police investigated the finding of 11 short barrel firearms and hundreds of active ammunition by fishermen at mouth of Siak River in Pekanbaru City., Riau Province. The firearms and ammunitions were found in the bottom of river.

“We are still investigating why the firearms and ammunitions can be at the bottom of river,” said Riau Police chief Inspector General Nandang on Monday (25/6).

Nandang said 11 firearms and 325 ammunitions active of standard Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police are currently handled by Bomb Squad of Riau Police Mobile Brigade. Riau Police also cooperated with Pekanbaru City Police to investigate the finding.

Based on the report, the firearms and ammunitions, also five cartridge were found on Sunday afternoon (June 24) at around 16:00 pm. It was found by a local resident, Al Amin who was fishing near the mouth of Parit Belanda or mouth of Siak River in Meranti Pandak Village, Rumbai Pesisir Subdistrict, Pekanbaru.

Al Amin received information from his friends that there was plastic bag at the bottom of the mouth river. He then contacted local authority and Pekanbaru City Police.
