REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Wiranto said government has agreed to set June 27 as national holiday for the sake of simultaneous regional election. Presidential decision (Keppres) related to the determination of national holiday will be issued soon.
According to Wiranto, national holiday proposal appeared although regional elections will be held only in 171 regions in Indonesia. He said the determination of national holiday is to avoid mass mobilization.
“There will be possibility of mass mobilization outside 171 regions that held regional elections, so we propose national holiday on June 27 and it has been agreed,” said Wiranto on Monday (June 25).

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo said national holiday determination was ascertain. He stressed Keppres related to this will be issued within one or two days.
“This proposal came from General Election Commission (KPU) because, for example in Jakarta there is no regional election, but many workers there are citizens of West Java, so they need holiday to use their right to vote,” Tjahjo explained.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan also said that he agreed with the discourse to make regional elections simultaneously become national holiday. According to him, many employees who work in Jakarta Provincial Government are not capital city citizens.
“Many Jakarta Provincial Government employees who live in areas where there are regional elections and of course they shouldn’t lose their right to vote,” said Anies.
