REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's police continue to guard the regional head elections process following the polling day on June 27, 2018. The stages of the pilkada process, including ballot counting in the polls and later in the organizing committee offices at the sub-district level (PPK), will be followed by regional general elections commission (KPUD) offices.

"The Indonesian Police will guard all of them," Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, spokesman of the National Police (Polri), said here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto stated that the pilkada 2018 ran smoothly, orderly, and peacefully in 171 regions across the country. There were 387,586 polling stations located in the 171 regions that organized the local elections on June 27, 2018. Of the total, only 10 polls faced problems.

Among the problems were shortages of ballot papers and missing ballot papers. "I think they were trivial problems. In general, the pilkada ran successfully, peacefully, and under control," the minister remarked.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude to Polri, the Indonesian military, and the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) for securing the implementation of pilkada.

The 171 regions comprise 17 provinces, 39 cities, and 115 districts.
