REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is scheduled to visit Jakarta on Friday evening (July 13). He will discussthe ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) incident.

"I have been scheduled to visit Indonesia tonight to work and utilize the opportunity to discuss the problem with the Indonesian side," he stated here on Friday.

Rahman noted that the issue held significance, especially as the Malaysian contingent will attend the Asian Games 2018 on Aug 18. "Indonesia and Malaysia are allied brothers, with several similarities that need to be taken care of," he conveyed.

Rahman expressed hope that the audience and sports enthusiasts of both countries would continue to support the upcoming competition and jointly establish close cooperation between the two nations and other countries to boost the spirit of cross-border sports.

In a press release, the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports also revealed that information was received on dissatisfaction voiced by members of the Indonesian audience after the AFF U-19 Cup final round between Malaysia and Indonesia.

This incident occurred due to discontent among members of the audience following the defeat of the Indonesian team. This led to provocation, and the Malaysian team took almost an hour to leave the stadium while being guided by the police.

Malaysia lauds the efforts of the Indonesian authorities that were swift and competent in safeguarding the situation and protecting the players and officials of both parties.

Malaysia views this problem as a serious matter, as the safety and welfare of athletes are being prioritized.
