REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is on a two-day work visit to Palembang, South Sumatra, to observe the readiness of a number of facilities and sports arena for the 2018 Asian Games in the South Sumatra provincial capital city. Boarding special presidential aircraft Indonesia-1, the president and his entourage departed from Jakarta's Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 8 am on Friday.
They arrived at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport here 50 minutes later. South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin greeted Jokowi upon arrival at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport, before the president observed the Jakabering sport arena.
In addition, Governor Alex Noerdin said the president inaugurated the rowing track for the 2018 Asian Games in the sports area of Jakabaring, Palembang. The governor added that the president also reviewed the light-weight train or "light rail transit" (LRT).
In the early stages, the LRT will be used as a means of transportation for participants of the Asian Games in August-September 2018.
Land certificates
Then the President also reviewed the labor-intensive program in one of the districts of South Sumatra. Jokowi handed out thousands of land certificates to farmers and communities in South Sumatra in a bid to offer legal certainty.
Some 600 thousand certificates were received by representatives of farmers and residents at the Plaza Benteng Kuto Besak, Palembang, South Sumatra Province, on Friday.
The president stated that the certificate provides legal certainty to the local community on the right of ownership. Hence, if there is a certificate, then the right of ownership becomes safe, he added.
In addition, if the need arises, the certificates can be used as collateral in banks.
Jokowi emphasized that the certificates should be used to meet the main interests, so it should be considered first. "Do not borrow money from the bank if you cannot return it. Hence, be careful," he stated.
The most important aspect is that the certificate ensures the right to property will be safe, so it provides convenience, he remarked.
In 2018, it targets to distribute nine million certificates, he added.
