REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bimanesh Sutardjo was sentenced three years imprisonment and a fine Rp 150 million or one month confinement. He was considered proven for obstructing investigation of Setya Novanto in e-ID card graft case.
However, Bimanesh got lighter punishment than Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor’s demands which charged him six years imprisonment and a fine Rp 300 million or three months confinement. The sentence was decided by panels judges at Jakarta Corruption Court, which consistsd of Mhfudin, Saifuddin Zuhri, Duta Baskar, Sigit Herman Binaji, and Titi Sansiwi.
“Defendant Bimanesh Sutardjo has been legally proven guilty for obstructing investigation of graft case,” said Panel Judges chief Mahfudin on Monday (July 16).
Panel Judges member Sigit explained the incriminating aspects were Bimanesh’s attitude did not support corruption eradication programs and damage the image of the doctor profession. However, he got lighter punishment since he has shown good manner, has never been punished, has responsibilities to his family, and meritorious in health sector.

Bimanesh as an internist at Medika Permata Hijau hospital allegedly conspired to manipulate Setya's medical record along with Fredrich Yunadi as Setya’s ex lawyer. Both of them had been snared by KPK for obstructing investigation of graft case.
They also believed to have made arrangement for Setya to be hospitalized following a minor car accident in November 2017. Fredrich and Bimanesh have been proven to violate Article 21 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Eradication Corruption, also in Article 55 paragraph (1) criminal code (KUHP).
Bimanesh on the previous trial admitted accident that occurred to Setya was engineered. He also confessed guilty for accidentally helping Fredrich to hide Setya.
He said he believed in Fredrich when he was asked to check Setya at Permata Hijau Hospital. He then decided to present himself as a witness of the perpetrators who cooperate with law enforcement officers (justice collaborator).
For his verdict, Bimanesh said he would think first. Meanwhile, KPK prosecutor also said would think to consider another legal step that need to be taken.
Earlier, panel of judges at Jakarta Corruption Court has officially sentenced Fredrich Yunadi seven years imprisonment and a fine Rp 500 million or five months confinement on Thursday (June 28). He was considered proven for obstructing investigation of Setya Novanto in e-ID card graft case.
