REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia Government through Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Jewish Nation-State Law passed by Israeli Parliament on July 19. The statement was conveyed by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi after holding bilateral meeting with Malaysia Foreign Affairs Minister Saifuddin Abdullah on Monday (July 23).
“I want to discuss about Jewish Nation-State Law that has been passed by Israeli Parliament and it has denied Palestinians rights in Israel,” said Retno.
In Jewish Nation-State Law, there is term ‘Jewish nation state’. The law considers Israel as the historical homeland of the Jews and the right to exercise national self-determination in the state of Israel is unique to the Jews.

Jewish Nation-State Law also states Hebrew is the official language and uses Arabic language in only special status level. Under the law, Israel sees the development of Jewish settlement as a national value and will act to encourage and promote its formation also consolidation.
Indonesia Government considered that Jewish Nation-State Law could disrupt efforts to settle conflict between Israel and Palestine. Retno said it will be more difficult to solve the conflict peacefully.
“The law is threatening the effort to resolve the conflict based on the two state solution,” Retno added.
