REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Democratic Party has agreed to carry Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto as presidential candidate in the 2019 election. The agreement reached following a meeting between Democratic Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prabowo on Monday (July 30).
SBY has left the decision to pick a running mate to Prabowo. He asserted it was important to choose a figure that will be widely supported by the people.
Meanwhile, Prabowo asserted that SBY never asked him for vice presidential candidate post. He denied the issues that said Democratic Party will join his coalition with certain terms and conditions, related to his running mate.
Incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) support party commented on Prabowo and SBY's decision to coalesce. United Development Party (PPP) secretary-general Arsul Sani said the coalition agreement between Democratic Party and Gerindra Party for 2019 presidential election is not final yet.

“It’s too early to say it was a final decision, as long as it’s unclear about details of the agreement, including whether Democratic Party will accept if Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is not going to be Prabowo’s running mate,” said Arsul on Monday (July 30).
Arsul assessed the Democratic Party and Gerindra Party have not come up with any detail. Intense communications held by parties outside Jokowi’s axis showed the coalition faced difficulties.
“It’s really different from Jokowi’s coalition, especially in determining vice presidential candidate post, we feel more relaxed,” Arsul added.
Golkar Party Central Executive Board (DPP) chairman Ace Hasan Syadzily also commented on Democratic Party and Gerindra Party agreement. He hoped the coalition will announce soon the pair of presidential-vice presidential candidate in 2019 presidential election.
“Golkar Party will respect Gerindra Party and Democratic Party decision to coalesce,” Ace said.
Ace assessed Prabowo’s coalition still has homework to select a vice presidential candidate following Democratic Party decision to join the axis.
“It’s not easy to unite perception, we also know Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and National Mandate Party (PAN) are probably will propose the candidates,” Ace added.
