KPK sends Rita Widyasari to Pondok Bambu Penitentiary

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sent the inactive Kutai Karanegara regent Rita Widyasari to Pondok Bambu Women Penitentiary in East Jakarta. She has becomea defendant in alleged bribery case and also gratification.

“KPK has executed Rita Widyasari (RIW) to Pondok Bambu Women Penitentiary since last July,” said KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah on Friday (Aug 3).

Earlier, Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced her with 10 years imprisonment and a fine Rp 600 million or six months confinement. Beside principal sentence, Rita also got additional sanction in the form of revoking her political right for five years.

Rita was proven to receive a bribe of Rp 6 billion from Hery Susanto Gun or known as Abun, related to grant of operating license for the core and plasma of palm oil plantation of PT Sawit Golden Prima in Kupang Baru Village, Muara Kaman Sub-district.

She also took gratuities from Commissioner of PT Media Bangun Bersama, Khairudin as much as Rp 6,97 billion, related to number of projects in Kutai Kartanegara. In addition, she also allegedly received a gratuity from the leadership of the Regional Device Work Unit (SKPD) in the regency.

KPK has re-appointed Rita and Khairudin in money laundering case on January 16. They committed crime as they received gratuities and bribe.

The suspected figure of money laundering amounted to Rp 436 billion. According to Febri, KPK investigators was still searching the possibility that the figure was higher.
