Prabowo to announce his running mate on Thursday

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto canceled the plan to announce his presidential candidate on Wednesday (Aug 8) night. The opposition camp has not reached agreement, Gerindra secretary general Ahmad Muzani said.

"We have not decide yet. It's not finale. Tonight, there is no name mentioned as Prabowo's vice president," Muzandi said at Prabowo's residence at Kartanegara street, South Jakarta, on Wednesday night.

According to Muzani, Prabowo will declare his running mate on Wednesday night at his house. "Insya Allah (God willing), on Thursday night. It's a great night," he said.

Muzani explained the discussion was still focused on some selected figures. However, he acknowledged new names arose in the discussion.

Earlier, Deputy secretary-general of Gerindra Party Andre Rosiade revealed that Commander of Joint Task Force of the Democrat Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY)'s and Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party Board of Trustees Sandiaga Uno's names were mentioned in the discussion. He asked all parties to be patient in waiting decision of parties leader in the opposition camp.

Chairman of the PAN Honorary Board Amien Rais, PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Gerindra Party Sandiaga Uno, and former campaign manager of AHY, Wisnu Wardhana attended the meeting in Prabowo's house. Previously, Prabowo visited PKS Syura (Advisory) Council chairman Salim Segaf Al-Jufri's house to discuss Ijtima' Ulemas recommendation.

Earlier, Chairman of the DKI Jakarta branch of Gerindra Party Muhammad Taufik said on Tuesday that the four political parties --Gerindra Party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), National Mandate Party (PAN), and Democratic Party-- leaders would meet again to agree on the name of the vice president candidate who will run in the presidential election 2019 with Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto. Taufik said the name to be announced on Wednesday (Aug 8).
