REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo gave directions to the 2018 Asian Para Games committee to make optimal efforts in welcoming the country's guests, who will contribute to the sporting event. Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi said these efforts are aimed at raising the spirits and motivation of athletes when they participate in the competition.

"The president is really looking for the wave of excitement that swept across the Indonesian nation at the Asian Games yesterday to be continued at the Asian Para Games," Nahrawi stated at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Friday.

The government had held a limited meeting related to preparations for the 2018 Asian Para Games. The plan is for 42 countries to send their delegates to take part in the 2018 Asian Para Games.

"In terms of achievement at the Asian Para Games, we expect to rise above that at the previous 9th Asian Para Games in Incheon. We can go up to the top 7," Nahrawi remarked.

He has set a target to win as many as 16-19 medals from 18 sports to be contested in the games. Bonuses given to athletes, who won medals in the Asian Para Games, are also equivalent to those offered to the 2018 Asian Games medalists.

Nahrawi remarked that all preparations had been made, and the National Education Council had focused on the athletes in detail. The requirements and equipment of all athletes have been prepared.

Earlier, Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (INAPGOC) has made a breakthrough by giving the people with disabilities freedom to watch the Asian Para Games international championship in Jakarta from October 6 to 13, 2018. It was decided after learning from ticket problem at the 2018 Asian Games.

"We have actually a special policy to give discounts to the people with disabilities, but we will free them to watch the games, anyway," INAPGOC Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari remarked during a media gathering on the 2018 Asian Para Games here on Tuesday.
