REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Mandate Party (PAN) hailed vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno's offer to daughter of former president Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), Yenny Wahid to join the campaign team. According to PAN Central Executive Board (DPP) deputy chairman Viva Yoga Mauladi, Yenny is a symbol of Gusdurian or Gus Dur followers.

"PAN will be happy if Yenny joins Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga pair campaign team,” said Viva on Tuesday (Sept 11).

Viva said Yenny has many followers, especially those Nahdliyin (Nahdlatul Ulama followers) who admired and practiced Gus Dur's thoughts. Not only that, Yenny also has followers from interfaith communities even though the community is a minority.

Viva stressed many people admired Yenny because her father, Gus Dur, was one of the pluralist figure and a world class religious figure. He said it would have an electoral impact.

When asked if there was a special communication between Prabowo-Sandi's coalition and Gus Dur's family, Viva said PAN chairman Zulkifli Hasan has a personal intimacy, especially with the younger brother of Gus Dur, Salahduddin Wahid "Gus Sholah".

Meanwhile, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) executive Suhud Aliyuddin said Yenny could represent a mother figure in the modern era, especially for groups of housewives (mothers) who complained about the current economic condition of the nation.

Earlier, Yenny admitted that she was offered to join Prabowo - Sandiaga success team. She also said incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) - KH Ma’ruf Amin campaign team has delivered the same purpose first.

However, Yenny was still considering the options. She believed there would still be talks from both sides. In the near future, she said, presidential candidate Prabowo also would come to her house.
