REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to immediately appointed the his new special envoy for dialogue and inter religious cooperation and civilization following Din Syamsuddin resignation. He planned to pick Din's successor on Thursday.

Din’s post is considered very needed as a forum for interfaith and international dialogue. “As soon as possible I will appoint the figure to replace Din, if possible today or tomorrow,” said Jokowi on Wednesday (Sept 26).

According to Jokowi, he has received a letter of resignation from Din on Tuesday (Sept 25). He also admitted has prepared names of several candidates to replace Din.

“I really respect Mr Din’s decision,” Jokowi added.

According to him, Din's decision to resign from his position was carried out with various careful considerations. One of the reasons was political considerations.

“He (Din) wants to be in the middle, he wants to be neutral, I really appreciate what he has decided,” Jokowi who paired with chief cleric KH Ma'ruf Amin in presidential election 2019 explained.

Earlier, Din met Jokowi at State Palace to submit his resignation letter. He admitted his decision was to facilitate his efforts to communicate with various organizations in this political year. Din also gave Jokowi recommendation about his successor.

“If I still serve as special envoy to a president who now is a presidential candidate, then many will see I’m here (with Jokowi), on the one hand, one camp, and it will hinder and not facilitate my efforts to build togetherness from a pluralistic society and various organizations,” Din explained.
