REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- PT PLN said electricity service fully restored in Central Sulawesi following an earthquake and tsunami on September 28. The state-owned electricity company expected Palu City and several surrounding quake-affected districts to rise from the disasters.

"With the restoration of electricity, economic activities in Palu, Donggala, and Sigi can soon revive," PLN's Regional Business Director Syamsul Huda stated in Palu on Monday.

A week after the earthquake that hit the city of Palu, and districts of Donggala, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong, PLN successfully recovered 45 feeders and seven main substations of Poso, Pamona, Pasang Kayu, Silae, Sidera, Talise, and Parigi.

With this success, he noted that electricity was ready to supplied to Palu, Donggala, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong. PLN also managed to repair 1,192 of the total 2,253 damaged distribution substations.

"We are currently focusing on gradually improving the electricity network and other distribution substations that are directly connected to customers," Huda revealed.

He added that the distribution substation, directly connected to the customers, was severely affected by the earthquake. He noted that the peak electricity consumption during the day in Palu and the surrounding areas had reached 25.4 megawatts.

PLN's hard work, including opening the PLN Care Post, as part of the efforts to improve electricity services in Central Sulawesi, was also lauded by the residents.

Zaman, a resident of Lere Village, Palu City, felt the direct impact of the return of PLN electricity.

Lere Village, West Palu District, was one of the areas located closest to the tsunami.

"People are afraid to return home because it is dark similar to when a city dies. Alhamdulillah, now electricity is on. Many people have returned home. Thanks PLN," he added.
