REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- Grand Final Mister and Miss Gaya Dewata 2018 event in Bali was canceled. Bali Police spokesman, Hengky Widjaja, assured the contest involving lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) failed to be held.

“Bali Police Intelligence director has confirmed the event is canceled due to rejection from Balinese communities,” said Hengky on Wednesday (Oct 10).

Hengky stated Bali Police has received official letters of rejection from some community institutions, among others Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Bali Province. A number of ulemas in the Island of Gods expressed their refusal.

Republika.co.id has not succeeded yet in confirming the organizer of the event, namely Gaya Dewata foundation. The official page of the foundation was also not accessible.

MUI Bali Province expressed rejection of all forms of activities on behalf of LGBT. Based on information received by MUI Bali Province, Grand Final Mister Miss Gaya Dewata event was scheduled on Wednesday (Oct 10).

“This is very concerning, because the event is clearly contrary to moral and religious values in Indonesia,” head of MUI Bali Province Muhammad Taufik Asadi said.

MUI Bali as a forum for all Muslims in the province has been carrying out the Indonesian religious and constitutional principles. Taufik said LGBT behavior is deviant and contrary to morality and religion.

Taufik stressed LGBT behaviour also contradicts the first principle of Pancasila, which is the Almighty Godhead. This also contradicted to Article 28 and Article 29 of 1945 Constitution. So, all forms of deviant activities are unconstitutional behaviour.

“To avoid undesirable things, such as forced dissolution or horizontal conflicts between groups of people, MUI Bali urges  government, especially Bali Police, to prohibit, cancel, and disband the activity," Taufik said.
