REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) stated five attitudes related to tawheed (Laa Ilaha Ilallah, the oneness of God) flag burning incident in Garut, West Java. The flag that was burned on last Oct 22 was considered belongs to former Islamic mass organization Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), which has disbanded by the government.

“We see HTI’s flag burning incident by NU Banser members in Garut, we as PBNU expressed attitudes,” said PBNU chairman Said Aqil Siradj on Wednesday (Oct 24).

Said assessed all forms of activities lead to treason must be dealt decisively to guard the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). He asserted, based on fact-finding team, which formed by PBNU reported that the raising of HTI flag on National Santri day 2018 took place almost in every region in West Java. Among the regions are Sumedang, Kuningan, Ciamis, Banjar, Bandung and Tasikmalaya.

PBNU assessed there was a systematic effort to infiltrate and provoke the implementation of 2018 National Santri Day ceremony. In a number of places, HTI's flag is successfully curbed and handed over to security forces in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
