2nd World Congress on Creative Economy to be held in Dubai

Indonesia organizes world conference on creative economy for first time in Bali.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA -- The second World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) will be organized in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, in 2020. Triawan Munaf, head of the National Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) informed the press here on Thursday.

Dubai was viewed as a suitable location for holding the WCCE due to being strategically located, coupled with the availability of sound facilities and infrastructure, Munaf stated. Moreover, Indonesia, which owns the WCCE brand, is keen to see a country that has transformed from a natural resources-based economy into a creative economy one.

"We also want to see a transformation of an Arab country, such as Saudi, which has been transformed from an oil to a creative industry base," he stated.

Bogota, the capital of Colombia, is also interested in hosting the next WCCE.

A series of events of the first WCCE had been organized by Bekraf in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Nusa Dua, Bali, on November 6-9, 2018, the ministry noted in a statement, here, Wednesday.

With some 1,500 people from over 30 countries participating in WCCE, the conference is intended to serve as a platform to build bridges between creative industry actors, the government, and relevant stakeholders in developing the creative economy.

Through the WCCE 2018 theme of "Inclusively Creative," Indonesia is keen to convey a message to the world that in the midst of economic uncertainty and trade wars, Indonesia has come up with an innovative idea proven to be crisis-proof and without limitations on age, gender, and borders, called "the Creative Economy."

The WCCE 2018 kicked off with the Friends of Creative Economy Meeting on November 6, 2018, attended by Penta-Helix creative economy stakeholders: academics, business sector, communities, governments, and media.
