REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo has called on district heads to facilitate the entry of investments in the regions. It was expected to encourage regional economic development.
"The president ordered the district heads to ease investment, shorten the bureaucracy, improve services, and maintain inflation," Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian District Governments (Apkasi), Mardani H Maming, stated at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Monday.
Jokowi on Monday received 31 district heads from various regions in Indonesia. "This is the fifth meeting held by the president with the regional heads," Maming, who is also the district head of the Tanah Bumbu of South Kalimantan, noted.
According to him, at the meeting, the president also explained the latest issues circulated in social media. "He explained the latest issues, such as foreign stooge, foreign workers from China, as well as the PKI (communist party) issue, which was dissolved in 1965. While he (Jokowi) was born in 1961," he added.
Meanwhile, Banyuwangi district head, Abdullah Azwar Anas, who was also present at the meeting, remarked that Jokowi mentioned a lot about the creative economy. "The president encouraged the district heads to embrace the creative economy, the education sector could be invited to collaborate to produce entrepreneurs," he remarked.
He mentioned that Indonesia which produces a lot of coffee cannot be inferior to Italy. "Italy does not produce coffee, but its stalls are all over the world," he explained.
According to him, the president invited the heads of the regions to focus, so that the results could be felt more by the community.
"Earlier, we also expressed our gratitude because thanks to the infrastructure support that has been built so far, many districts that have been isolated have now been easily accessible; for example, it takes only an hour to reach Banyuwangi, whereas, it used to take 2-3 hours earlier," he pointed out.
