REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police Chief Gen Tito Karnavian and Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto led a roll call ceremony on the preparations for Christmas, New Year's Eve 2019, and the presidential and legislative elections to be held simultaneously on April 17, 2019. The roll call saw the participation of some 50 thousand officers of the police and the military.
The officers who were present represented the military and police personnel across Indonesia, Tjahjanto said.
"Now, we are at the end of 2018. We are holding this roll call to strengthen the synergy and consolidation existing so far," he stated.
He expressed his appreciation for the TNI and police officers who have established cooperation soundly in carrying out their tasks, such as when they helped the victims of natural disasters. Gen Karnavian lauded Marshal Tjahjanto for initiating the holding of the roll call.
"This momentum must be maintained, including sound ties and cooperation between the TNI and Polri (Indonesian Police). We will jointly prepare the agenda for Christmas and New Year's Eve," he said.
Several weaponry and vehicles were displayed during the roll call ceremony. These included Leopard tanks, Caesar cannons, Busmaster, Anoa panzer, Komodo panzer, Scorpion tanks, Lvt-7 A1, BNp 3f, MIrs Vampire Grad rocket, and Caracal, Colibri, as well as Ooerlikon helicopters.
The presidential race will be a repeat of the 2014 elections wherein incumbent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Prabowo Subianto are set to go head-to-head.
