REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- A couple of tigers escaped from their cages in the Semarang Zoo in Central Java. They roamed around the zoo on Wednesday morning.

However, the two tigers were successfully caught with the help of officers from the Central Java Natural Resources Conservation Board (BKSDA) and the Ngaliyan police precinct in Semarang City, spokesman for the Semarang City Police Commissioner Baihaqi said.

"They have been successfully caught and returned to their cages," he noted.

The officers used a dope gun to catch the two tigers, he added. Chief of the BKSDA Suharman remarked that he received a report on the escape of the two tigers on Wednesday at 08.38 a.m. local time.

"A pair of tigers escaped from their cages," he stated, quoting the report.

BKSDA officers, with the help of police officers, later secured the zoo to ensure safety of visitors, he explained. The two tigers were found hiding below the bridge at the zoo, he added.

The BKSDA officer later shot the tigers using a dope gun. After the tigers slept, they were taken to their cages. President Director of Semarang Zoo Samsul Siregar still could not explain how the tigers escaped from their cages.
