REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- An aircraft of foreign carrier Ethiopia Airlines was forced to land at the Hang Nadim Airport in Batam, Riau Island, on Monday. The aircraft did not possessed a permit to fly over the area's airspace.

"The plane did not have the permit (to fly over Batam's airspace)," Director of the Hang Nadim Airport Suwarso stated on Monday.

The Boeing B777F aircraft is a cargo plane operating from Addis Ababa Bole to the Hong Kong airport. It failed to mention flight clearance when being asked by Indonesian AirNav.

Ethiopian cargo plane parked at Hang Nadim Airport, Batam, Riau Province, after being forced to land by Indonesian fighter jets for not having a permit to fly over the area's airspace, Monday (Jan 14).

National Air Defense Command then sent two of its F16 fighter jets to force cargo plane to land.

"Currently, the plane's crew members are being questioned by the Indonesian Air Force," he added.
