REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- The National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 72 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia into Aceh. Head of BNN of Aceh Province Brig. Gen. Faisal Abdul Naser stated that the agency's task force and customs officers had seized the vessel KM Karabia that carried the drugs in Lhoksukon waters of North Aceh and arrested its three crew members on early Tuesday.

"This is an operation conducted by BNN and the Customs Office. We have seized the ship and arrested three crew members," Naser noted in Banda Aceh on Tuesday.

The security personnel also retrieved two packs of ecstasy from the ship. Naser said, the drugs were carried from Malaysia and transferred ship-to-ship to dealers in Malacca Straits in the bordering waters of Malaysia and Indonesia.

The drugs were then taken to Aceh aboard KM Karabia. The drug smuggling was allegedly controlled by Ramli, a prisoner in the Tanjung Gusta prison in Medan, North Sumatra.

"The three crew members were taken to Jakarta, and the BNN is still investigating the smuggling case," Naser added.
