REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Police Hospital will need at least three weeks to identify the human remains believed to be those of the victims of the crashed Lion Air JT-601 found in the Karawang waters on Monday. The hospital, on Monday night, received four bags of human remains, weighing seven kilograms in total.

Head of the Forensic Unit of the Raden Said Sukanto Police Hospital, Senior Commissioner Edy Purnomo stated that it would take more time to identify the remains that have remained submerged in the waters for over two months.

"The soonest it can be processed is three weeks, hopefully, we would be able to get the result. This is since it will take longer time and greater difficulties will be encountered to find the human remains," Purnomo noted when contacted here on Tuesday.

Purnomo made assurance that his team will work optimally to identify the victims.

"We will work optimally, and hopefully, we would still get the DNA data," he added.

The search and rescue team has found the human remains believed to be those of victims of the Lion Air flight JT-610 that crashed in the Tanjung Pakis waters of Karawang on October 29, 2018, killing all 189 people on board. The team has also found the cockpit voice recorder of the ill-fated aircraft, buried in about eight meters of mud in waters some 30 meters deep.

Until the search and rescue team ended its search operation on November 10, 2018, only 125 of the victims have been identified.
