REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Chairman of the Gerindra Faction and Aceh's Legislative Assembly of PKS, Abdurrahman Ahmad, asked the Ministry of Transportation to evaluate the regulations governing airline tickets. He expected that there is no dramatic increase in rates at certain times.
"The drastic increase in airplane ticket prices has had a huge impact on the people who travel outside the region, because the costs incurred are very large. Many Acehnese have made a passport to transit in Malaysia and then fly to Jakarta or other regions," he said in Banda Aceh on Tuesday.
He explained that the agreement of all national airlines that are members of the Indonesian Aviation Companies Association (INACA) to reduce flight ticket rates is not a policy that is taken permanently. He said that the price of airplane tickets can rise again at any time because in the existing regulations.
"The airline has an authority to raise prices, which sometimes is unfair, and this seems to be out of control," he noted.
According to the Gerindra politician, in order to avoid the increase in aircraft prices during holidays, year-end holidays, and Lebaran, there must be a review of the regulations governing the price of aircraft issued by the Ministry of Transportation. He believed the increase in airplane ticket prices was not a trivial matter, as this would have an impact on all sectors, both the economy and tourism, as well as the goods sent via air transportation.
He expressed hope that the Central Government, through the Ministry of Transportation, can immediately revise the regulations governing airplane tickets as well as land transportation that regulate the rates charged for routes to be taken.
"This legal certainty is very necessary, so that the airline is not arbitrary in increasing the price of airline tickets," he remarked.
