REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's exports stood at US$14.18 billion in December 2018. It fell 4.89 percent compared to the previous month or 4.62 percent compared to the same month of 2017, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
"Exports in December 2018 declined due to a drop in non-oil/non-gas exports, while oil and gas exports rose 27.34 percent," BPS Chief Suharyianto said here on Tuesday.
Non-oil/non-gas exports in December 2018 reached $12.43 billion. It was down 8.15 percent compared to November 2018 and 7.01 percent compared to December 2017, he stated.
Among the non-oil/non-gas commodities, metal ore, crust, and dust exports recorded the largest decline of $278.7 million, or 56.25 percent, while jewelry/precious stone exports saw the largest increase of $84.9 million, or 27.41 percent.
The largest market for Indonesia's non-oil/non-gas exports in December 2018 was China, with $1.67 billion; followed by the United States, with $1.48 billion; and Japan, with $1.16 billion. The three countries contributed 34.70 percent of the overall non-oil/non-gas exports in December 2018.
Meanwhile, non-oil/non-gas exports to European Union (28 countries) reached $1.33 billion, he noted. Indonesia's exports in 2018 mostly came from West Java, with $30.37 billion, or 16.87 percent; East Java, with $19.07 billion, or 10.59 percent; and East Kalimantan, with $18.56 billion, or 10.31 percent.
