REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Police said that massive seizures on books allegedly contain the teachings of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) were the domain of the Attorney General Office's (Kejagung). The police will intervene if a criminal violation is found.
"That is the realm of Kejagung," spokesperson of the National Police Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo said at the National Police Headquarters, in South Jakarta, on Thursday (Jan 24).
He explained the police would intervene if there was a recommendation from Kejagung to carry out the investigation process. It must also go through a process of further investigation by Kejagung and suspected criminal offense.
"Kejagung has experts, for example if there are criminal violations related to the issue of the spread of communism, then later Kejagung will give recommendation to the police to carry out the investigation process," he explained.
Previously, Attorney General HM Prasetyo proposed a large-scale raids on alleged communism books. He stated that following seizure of books by officials at shops in a number of regions.
"I've suggested to carry out large-scale raids, because shop owners in various places say that the books are sold in many other places. The information needs to be checked," Prasetyo said after attending the meeting at the house of representatives Building, in Jakarta, on Wednesday (Jan 23).
Kejakgung will form a clearing house related to books confiscated in a number of areas. The clearing house will function as a special center to check the content of the confiscated books.
Prasetyo appreciated the officials who discovered and secured the books allegedly contained communism, teaching and movement that is prohibited in Indonesia. Therefore, Kejagung needed time to examine the contents of the book. Kejagung will examine the contents of the books whether they have violated as stipulated in the TAP MPRS Number XXV Year 1966 (Communist Prohibition).
