REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Secretary of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) DKI Jakarta, Habib Novel Bamukmin planned to submit his resignation from the Crescent Star Party (PBB). Habib Novel who is also a legislative candidate from the PBB, will submit a letter of resignation to the PBB's Central Executive Board (DPP) office on Wednesday afternoon.
Beside Habib Novel, FPI Shura Council Habib Muhsin Bin Ahmad Al Attas would also take the same step.
"Insya Allah (God willing), I will submit the resignation, today at 4 pm, Habib Muhsin bin Ahmad Al Attas of the Shura Council of the FPI DPP will also come to the DPP PBB to officially resign," Habib Novel said via text message on Wednesday (Jan 30).
Their decision to resign from the PBB was to follow the edict of Grand Imam of FPI Habib Rizieq Shihab. Rizieq called on all PBB's legislative candidates to resign following the attitude of the party to support Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin for the upcoming presidential election.
"All FPI activists along with all FPI sympathizers and all supporters of the Ijtima Ulama result wherever they were, who became "PBB Administrators or Candidates" to immediately resign from the administration and legislative candidates," said Habib Rizieq in a press statement issued by PA 212, on Monday (Jan 28).
Earlier, Chairman of the PBB' s Winning Field Sukmo Harsono doubted the edict of Habib Rizieq Shihab (HRS) addressed to FPI cadres at the PBB. Even, he assessed that it was hoax made by other groups.
According to Sukmo, HRS's announcement for FPI cadres to resign from the PBB, or not be active in legislative campaign through the PBB, meant providing opportunities for other party candidates to win in the 2019 legislative elections. He said that militancy candidates of PBB was certainly different from other party candidates.
Sukmo continued, the edict to withdraw from the PBB was actually detrimental to the candidates themselves. He was worried, the candidates who passed to the parliament were from other parties who did not fight for the people, and the militancy was not as good as the PBB candidates.
"I don't believe the edict is true, except that it was hoax carried out by people from other groups on behalf of Habib Rizieq or other people whose actual purpose is to weaken the Islamic party that will sit in parliament," he said on Tuesday.
