REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Awaloedin Djamin, former chief of the Indonesian Police (Polri), died of illness at the Medistra Hospital, here, Thursday. He will be buried on Friday at the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery, South Jakarta, on Friday.
"Yes, he passed away at 2:45 p.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB)," Ins. Gen. Mohammad Iqbal, the spokesman of Polri, stated here, Thursday.
Polri Chief General Tito Karnavian is expected to lead the funeral that will be held after the Friday mass prayers.
Born in Padang, West Sumatra, on September 26, 1927, Djamin was the manpower minister during the 1966-1967 period. He was the Polri chief from 1978 to 1982.
