REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Lawyer for presidential candidate Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, stated that he would open another discussion with President Jokowi and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto regarding the release of convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Baasyir. Baasyir was still in the Gunung Sindur prison after Yusril claimed he could be released.

"Maybe later we will talk again with the President and Mr Wiranto," Yusril said in a written statement, in Jakarta, on Tuesday (Feb 5).

According to Yusril, Baasyir's parole, was just a matter of time. And currently, his side was still consolidating with a number of parties.

"We are waiting for the momentum, we will wait until there are no more pros and cons," said the Chairman of the Crescent Star Party (PBB).

Previously, on January 18, Yusril has announced the release of Baasyir. on humanitarian grounds. Upon the President order, he went to Gunung Sindur prison to speed up the processes.

However, Wiranto disagreed with this and requested that the release of Baasyir need to consider several other aspects, such as Pancasila, NKRI, and the law.

Yusril was reluctant to comment further on Wiranto's opinion. For him, all administration to free Baasyir had been completed and was just waiting for the right momentum. It had been conveyed to President Jokowi.

"If it is not because of the Pancasila, maybe he is already free. Everyone knows, whoever obeys Islam, they obey the Pancasila," Yusril said.

However, he added, the release of Baasyir was fully handed over to the government. "Now I am waiting for the President to help complete the requirements that have been completed," he said.
