REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan said that his party was concerned about the determination of Chairman of the 212 Alumni Brotherhood, Slamet Maarif, as a suspect of campaign violation by the police. He asserted that his party is ready to give legal aid assistance to Ma'arif.
Zulkifli said that during the meeting with Slamet Maarif, Chairman of the National Movement of Fatwa Guards (GNPF) Ulama Yusuf Martak and ranks of the party at Jalan Daksa I number 10, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta on Wednesday.
"Because the justice should be felt by the people. (The police) should treat people fairly, including the 212 chairman," Zulkifli said.
Zulkifili said that PAN, which carried the tagline of 'Defending the Ummah, defending the people', was ready to defend ulama and habib. He said PAN will assign its lawyer to defend criminalized ulema.
"PAN is the party that supports and loves ulema. If there is anyone gets a problem, we will help, including ustaz Slamet Ma'arif," said the People Consultative Assembly chairman.
Zulkifli said that ulema have a big role in the history of the Indonesian nation. So, it was important for PAN to defend ulama and religious leaders. In addition, Zulkifli also asked the police to be fair, especially in this political year, including to regional heads or the governor who violated the law.
Meanwhile Slamet expressed his gratitude for the support provided by PAN. He said such support became an encouragement for him to fight for justice in Indonesia.
