REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- Candidate for Indonesian President H Prabowo Subianto has reiterated his vision and mission to achieve food self-sufficiency in Indonesia. He reminded that food self-sufficiency is important, because the population continues to increase.

"Speedy increases in the size of the population must not be seen as something trivial," he said in Medan on Friday.

He made his remarks at a gathering and hospitality meeting with businessmen and Chinese citizens in the Selecta Building, Medan, which was attended by thousands of participants. According to the presidential candidate holding serial number 2, he wanted all Indonesians to have food to eat.

"For what is independence, if some people cannot eat?" he asked.

Prabowo noted reports that people had hanged themselves because they could not feed their children.

"We enter the army at the age of 18 years, and after retirement there are people who do not eat. I do not accept it," he said.

Prabowo stressed that he did not want to blame anyone if there were still people who do not eat. But food self-sufficiency, as well as energy, has become his vision and mission to become a presidential candidate, noting that the Indonesian state is rich in natural resources.

"I don't blame anyone. I don't like to rebuke, blaspheme and speak ill," he said.

The head of the event committee, Harti Hartidjah, said he was grateful for the opportunity and it was an honor for Chinese citizens to meet with Prabowo Subianto, who is the candidate for President of the Republic of Indonesia 2019-2024.

"We are working in order that Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Sandi (Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno) be elected as the President of the Republic of Indonesia from 2019 to 2424," he said.

He stressed that the presence of many citizens, including religious leaders, reinforced Prabowo Subianto's conviction to be elected President. The former Indonesian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Maj. Gen. Ret. Sudrajat, who gave a speech, stressed that Prabowo is a warrior.

"I am a good friend and know Prabowo well. So do not doubt who Prabowo is," he said.

"We support and pray that Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Sandi (Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno) are elected as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia from 2019 to 2424," he said.

He asserted that the presence of many residents, including religious leaders, enforced the belief that Prabowo Subianto could be elected President of the Republic of Indonesia.
