REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said he cannot intervene legal issue related to Kivlan Zen, who has named as suspect in a treason case in relation to postelection riots in Jakarta capital. However, he expects police could re-examine legal process against Kivlan.
According to Ryamizard, his statement conveyed following a request for Kivlan’s legal protection and suspension of detention. He stressed that has asked the consideration from police, but it did not mean Kivland could not be punished.
“I have said to police and asked to reconsider it. I’m just asking to reconsider, not revoke the punishment, just consider,” said Ryamizard said on Wednesday.
Ryamizard said Kivlan once had contributed for the nation. As people knew, Kivlan is former chief of the Army Strategic Reserves Command.
“Just consider his services for this nation and others,” Ryamizard added.
However, Ryamizard said he is in a position that could interfere legal process against Kivlan. He admitted that as his senior, Kivlan and him are friends.
“He (Kivlan) is my senior, we have good relationship and I appreciate him. But about legal issues and politics, i cannot intervene,” Ryamizard said.
National Police has named Kivlan as a suspect in a treason case in relation to people power rallies on last May. He was reported to police for violating Criminal Code articles on treason and spreading false news by a Serang, West Java resident named Jalaludin. He was also accused to initiate a rally demanding that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his running mate Ma’ruf Amin be disqualified from the presidential race on May 9.
