REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's National Defense Institute (Lemhanas) has called for tighter recruitment of cadets for the Military Academy as a precautionary measure against radicalism among soldiers.

"The recruitment of TNI cadets must adhere to the rules and regulation," Lemhanas Governor Lt Gen (ret.) Agus Widjojo stated on the sidelines of a seminar of Regular Training Program Batch LIX of Lemhanas here on Wednesday.

The Indonesian Army has decided to defend Enzo Zenz Allie, a cadet of French descent, to continue his education in the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java. Allie has been under public spotlight after his digital footprint appeared and sparked allegation that the 18-year-old cadet and his mother had been exposed to radicalism.

"We have questioned further education of the cadet. Why should we defend someone who, according to the intelligence, has been exposed to radicalism and recruit him in the Army, while we were already shocked when we discover three percent of our soldiers are exposed to radicalism," he remarked.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Andika Perkasa has decided to defend Allie to continue his education in the Military Academy. "We, in the Army, have decided to keep Enzo Zenz Allie, and all military cadets recruited here," Perkasa stated.

Perkasa pointed out that based on the evaluation, Allie has a satisfactory point in the index of citizenship moderation.
