REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit Indonesia in early 2020 to mark seven decades of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia. Before the commemoration of diplomatic ties, the Indonesian and Russian governments have prepared several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) that the leaders of both nations will ink during the visit.

One of the MoUs concerns the intensification of bilateral ties to the level of strategic partnership. "In fact, we have prepared several documents, but I cannot explain them in detail now, as they are still in process. All the documents are expected to be signed during President Putin's visit in Jakarta," Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobieva remarked at a press briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Indonesia and Russia had forged a comprehensive partnership since 2003. The bilateral ties are expected to be promoted to the level of strategic partnership, the announcement for which will be made when both countries commemorate 70 years of diplomatic ties early next year.

Vorobieva remarked that the promotion of bilateral ties to the level of strategic partnership will give rise to a novel phase of relations between both nations. "We want to promote the standard and quality of relations with Indonesia," she stated.

The Russian Embassy in Jakarta has prepared several programs in commemoration of seven decades of diplomatic relations with Indonesia. The programs comprise a music concert to feature a renowned Russian guitarist and a photo exhibition to be organized at the Russian Cultural Foundation next week.
