REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- Garuda Indonesia's flight services to the Komodo Airport in East Nusa Tenggara and Bima in West Nusa Tenggara will help promote tourism in the two provinces, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said on Monday.

"I am optimistic that the Garuda flight services to Labuhan Bajo's Komodo Airport in East Nusa Tenggara and Bima in West Nusa Tenggara can help develop tourism in the two provinces," the minister noted.

She said Garuda Indonesia, which is the national flag carrier, should continue to make a breakthrough by opening new routes to other regions, which have short runways.

"Garuda can help develop the potential of remote areas in Indonesia by opening up new routes, which will also attract tourist visits," Mari pointed out.

Mari noted that remote areas in the country had a variety of potential for tourism, but they were yet to be developed because of a lack of air transportation.

"But with Garuda spreading its wings to areas with smaller airports in the country, I am sure that tourism in these areas will progress a lot," the minister noted.

Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia President Director Emirsyah Satar stated that Garuda will open up new flight routes to as many remote areas as possible in the country.

"Garuda will use ATR 72-600 planes with sophisticated technology to reach the areas which have small airports," Emirsyah said.
