REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- Andalas University in Padang, West Sumatra, will build a cultural center, Minangkabau Corner, head of the university library Azral said here Thursday (8/1).
"Minangkabau Corner, together with other cultural centers, will complete the university library's facilities," he stated.
According to him, the main objective behind Minangkabau Corner is to make the university an art and cultural information center on Minangkabau, an Indonesian tribe that lived in the highlands of West Sumatra.
Minangkabau Corner has been a collaboration between the university library and the Minangkabau Study Center of Humanity Faculty.
Azral noted that Minangkabau Corner will collect all matters related to Minangkabau culture such as ancient manuscripts, historical documents, and books that can be converted to digital media format.
He added that in order to enrich the corner's collection, the university's students will be assigned to explore Minang's pedigree.
"The assignment aims to collect all the data about the original Minang family in a certain area and analyze the results to see the connection between one family and others," Azral explained.
Minangkabau Corner is expected to be opened by March 2015.
Besides this corner, Andalas University will also build Middle East Corner. "We are waiting for the Rector's approval," Azral added.
